 Anglia Training FAQ

Do I need a Driving Licence for all of the courses?

Yes, when you register for training you must bring both parts of your licence with you, i.e. the photo card and the green paper counter part. If you have an old style licence you will need to bring your Passport for i.d. NB no documents, no training, and loss of fee!!
It is your responsibility to ensure your licence entitles you to ride the vehicle to be used in training, Moped (Group ‘P’ or group ‘E’ on licences pre 1990) Motorcycles/Scooters (Group ‘A’ or group ‘D’ on licences pre 1990) Some licences issued in the mid 1990’s do not have motorcycle entitlements so you may have to re apply for a new licence. If you haven’t got a licence you can apply for one by getting a form from the post office.

Do I need to do a theory test; I have already passed one for my car?

Yes, if you want to take your Motorcycle Practical Test you will need to pass your Motorcycle Theory Test first, so ideally it is better to do that before booking a course. You can book the theory test on line at https://pt.dsa.gov.uk/tests/online_booking_1.asp and a handy revision site is http://www.theory-test.co.uk/asp/default.asp . It is definitely worth revising before the test and if you need any advice give us a call.

Do I need to do a Theory Test for a CBT?

No but it is worth looking through the Highway Code, particularly if you are a new road user. Many 16 year olds have very poor knowledge of the Highway Code and make unnecessary mistakes as a result. Having a clear understanding of the rules gives you the confidence to approach hazards and traffic situations, knowing what to do when you get there.

Do I need to have a Moped or Motorcycle?

No, all of the course prices include the use of our bikes

Will I need to have my own motorcycle clothing?

If you have your own gear bring it along but if not we have plenty of gear on site but please wear strong trousers like jeans on the day not nylon jogging pants and definitely no shorts.

The Mod 1 Test is hear to stay for the time being, so don't expect any changes in 2012! Train on our circuit and be well prepared!!...

It will be 3 years in April since the Mod 1 test was introduced and with plenty of experience behind us we have finished the 2011 season off with a very pleasing 52 passes on the trot. Well done to all pupils and especially Jody who made it 50 out of 50. Just for good measure he went on to pass his Mod 2 test in the afternoon and he is pictured here with both of his certificates.

On the 27th of April 2009 the Motorcycle test got harder and is now split into two modules, Module 1 and Module 2. Module 1 has to be passed before taking Module 2 and involves some slow riding exercises including a slalom, figure of eight and a u-turn. It also includes 2 higher speed manoeuvres that have to be taken at no less than 50kmph, with a swerve and an emergency stop.

There is no doubt that the hardest part of the new test is achieving the correct speed for the higher speed manoeuvres and you only get 2 chances to get it right. The key to success is knowing what gear to be in when you come around the corner towards the examiner so that you consistently reach the speed without having to look down at your Speedo. We can train for this on the safety of the track and can record you speed by radar so you will be well prepared for the requirements of Module 1.

Module 2 is similar to the old test but without the u-turn and emergency stop, which are now covered in Module 1 and  involves a 35 minute ride around the test centre area where we practice before your test.

So how hard is it compared to the old test?

There is no doubt that the new test is harder than the old test and it has received a lot of bad press and quite a lot of scare mongering which we believe to be unfounded. To pass the Mod 1 you need to be a better rider than was previously required for the old test but surely that cant be a bad thing. The swerve manoeuvre has received the greatest criticism but we take the view that if after passing your test you can buy a machine that will accelerate to 60mph in less than 3 seconds, it's not a bad thing to be able to swerve to avoid something at a mere 32mph. By using the track to develop your confidence gradually and under safe conditions the swerve manoeuvre is not a problem but of course very few training schools can offer this facility.

Alex and Charlie were our first 2 pupils to take the new test and they passed both modules first time with flying colours. They both felt well prepared for the Mod 1 after the time we spent on the track. Well done to them both, it was nice to get off to a good start.
